Endodontics is a specialized branch of dentistry focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases and injuries of the dental pulp (the soft tissue inside the tooth) and the surrounding tissues. Endodontists are trained to perform complex procedures such as root canal treatments, endodontic surgery, and addressing traumatic dental injuries.
While both dentists and endodontists are dental professionals, endodontists receive additional specialized training. After completing dental school, endodontists undergo an extra two to three years of advanced education in endodontics. This extensive training equips them with the skills needed to handle more complex cases involving the dental pulp and perform intricate procedures like root canals and endodontic surgeries.
While we do accept referrals no you do not need a referral to request an appointment with Surprise Endodontics.
A root canal treatment is a dental procedure designed to treat infection or damage within the tooth’s pulp. During the procedure, the endodontist removes the infected or damaged pulp, cleans and disinfects the inside of the tooth, and then fills and seals it. This treatment helps to save the natural tooth and prevent the need for extraction.
Contrary to popular belief, a root canal is not typically painful. With modern dental techniques and anesthesia, most patients report feeling little to no pain during the procedure. In fact, a root canal is often performed to relieve the pain caused by an infected or inflamed tooth. Post-procedure discomfort can usually be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers and typically subsides within a few days.
